A meeting of the ASFONA Board of Directors was held at the "W" Union Square New York in May. One of the primary goals on the agenda was to complete the business plan with Starwood for implimenting the ASFONA / Starwood "Areas of Focus" business initiatives for 2010 / 2011. Denise Coll, the President of Starwood North America attended part of the meeting to inform the ASFONA board of Starwoods commitment to the implimentation of the process.

The business issues discussed at the last meeting were agreed at the ASFONA board meeting on October 22nd and are shown below. The Starwood Corporate Headquarters in White Plains New York was the venue for the joint executive meeting on October 23rd and the Sheraton Tarrytown, New York was the venue for the ASFONA board meeting the day before.

The ASFONA Board of Directors, together with the Starwood North Americas Advisory Board met with Frits van Paasschen, the new CEO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts at the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach - California in October. Following this a further meeting with the CEO took place in November also at the St. Regis Monarch Beach. The last ASFONA Board Meeting was held at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers on February 27th 2008. The date and location of the next meeting will be announced shortly.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts held a "Regional Meeting" in February 2007 in Orlando and at the same time, in the same venue they also held a one day "Owners Meeting" at which a number of the ASFONA Board members were present. The "Owners Meeting took place on February 15th. On the following day ASFONA had scheduled a Board Meeting, the agenda for which had to be changed to a more "General Meeting" as many board members were not able to be present due to the adverse weather conditions in the North.

Following discussions between ASFONA and Starwood relating to the importance of the positioning of Sheraton in North America, Steve Heyer had committed to undertake a major review of the brand. This was discussed at the meeting in Dallas in November 2006 and a commitment given to follow up in early 2007. Following this an Invitation was received by the ASFONA Board of Directors from Starwood to meet in New York on January 30th 2007 with Starwood Senior Management.

The ASFONA Board of Directors meet at least twice per year with the senior management of Starwood. The last meeting took place on November 8th at the "W" Hotel in Dallas. A follow up to this meeting took place on January 30th 2007 at the St. Regis in New York.
There was also a meeting of the ASFONA Board on November 7th. The new Associate Members and "Honorary Board Members" joined this meeting later in the day. Each Honorary Board Member was individually welcomed and gave an overview of their company.
