ASFONA BOARD MEETING

The ASFONA Board of Directors held a Conference Call on March 6th to discuss various topics following the Starwood Conference and Owners Meeting in February in Orlando.

ASFONA BUSINESS ISSUES UPDATES
The official Starwood audit of the program will be complete in the last week of May. The ASFONA team are scheduled to review the audit and other documents on June 5th at the White Plains Office.The three ASFONA representatives are John Shingler – Hung Luk – Abe Moses.
The implementation of the 2.5 Patch has resulted in significant performance improvements. There are still some problems but happening with less frequency.
John Shingler reported on the progress being made following the ASFONA meeting he and Hung Luk had had with Starwood and Galaxy senior management in October.

Lynne Dougherty has advised that they trying to schedule this meeting in May. The ASFONA Members are John Shingler –Hung Luk – Abe Moses and the Alternate is Lou Karger

The majority of participating hotels are reporting overall positive results and ASFONA will continue to recommend hotels to participate.
Hung Luk reported excellent results from participating in this program and recommended all Board Members to participate. Most reported that they were and experienced the same results.
New Brand Initiatives
All the new initiatives that were introduced to the board in New York have been further scrutinized since the meeting. This has resulted in some being eliminated and the others being reviewed for appropriateness. Those remaining to be included in the “Concept Hotels” one of which is the Sheraton Toronto Downtown. The initiatives are to be thoroughly tested for consumer reaction and operational cost effectiveness at this and other hotels.
Sheraton Brand Advisory Board
Composition & Meeting Schedule is being worked on by Hoyt Harper the Brand SVP. Following a meeting with Hoyt in Orlando, John Shingler reported that Hoyt has committed to him a total of four ASFONA Board Seats. Brand Standards will be developed and presented to the Advisory Board for review and finally approval for implementation.

This Advisory Board has been operating successfully over the past four years and the new brand leader, Sandy Swider fully intends to continue with the meeting template. Revisions to the “Banquet Simple Pricing” and the “Core Beverage” brand standards has already been discussed between John Shingler, Sandy Swider and Pete Lesser and revisions made.
A Marketing Assessment Increase has been approved by the Advisory Board with the increased funds allocated to Field Marketing initiatives. These to be measured on a hotel by hotel basis with monthly reports on incremental business being given to the hotels and quarterly reports to owners.
